We installed beta 17.1 and everything seems ok up until trying to 'make'
something.  It simply does not execute any rules in the makefile.  Even
explicit rule calling doesn't make it flinch.

we have a /tmp, /bin/sh, / (correct drive), PATH, etc... set up right (I
assume since our 'configure' ran correctly which does a lot of subshells
with bash, sed, awk, etc...)

Anyway, doing a make --debug gives us this...

Reading makefiles...
Reading makefile 'Makefile'...

Anyone have any problems like this.  TIA, brad
