There is a possibly related bug in Gnu-Win32 b17.1 at least on Win95 - exporting a lower case 
variable name results in an upper case named environment variable, presumably due to Windows 
restrictions (although I have seen lower case env vars on Windows, they just weren't settable from 
command.com or something).
