I think your problem is you haven't installed the EGCS over your
gcc-2.7.2.3. This could be easily resolved by something like:

> whereis gcc
gcc: /usr/bin/gcc /usr/local/bin/gcc

try specifying both gcc's using full path... one of them will probably be
your old 2.7.2.3 and the other egcs
then, if you want to keep the 2.7.2.3, change it's name to, say,
gcc-2.7.2.3 and make a symlink to the egcs binary (may not be required)
