On a K6/225 :
$ time ./bzip2-mx < gcc-2.8.1.tar > /dev/null
168.84s user 0.99s system 99% cpu 2:50.11 total
..time /bzip2-nomx < gcc-2.8.1.tar > /dev/null
133.77s user 0.76s system 99% cpu 2:14.86 total
