The most common difference is footprint. If I have things like =
manufacturer=E2=80=99s part number as attributes, that changes too. =
Sometimes pin numbers change. Sometimes pin count changes: that 18 pin =
MOSFET symbol I posted recently drops right into a schematic originally =
designed for a 3 pin part.
Lately, I=E2=80=99ve been handling such issues more in git than in =
makefiles (prototype and production have separate branches), but git is =
another generic tool rather than something that locks you in to a =
specific toolset.
