I was in the aerospace industry for years and I agree.  Mounting holes 
shall not be plated.  I no longer remember why.  Probably due to a 
failure or two traced to the pth mounting holes - A reliability issue.  
Ignoring history and thinking outside the box is not always a good thing 
to do.
