That could work. Or I could check on the projcet from time to time as a 
tester to provide feedback.

I am sure there are a lot of users who can contribute, so I am sure if 
enough people start working on it there will be an usable minimal lib. The 
harder question is then how to get this be the default lib for new users 
while not breaking existing installations for old users on an upgrade. 
This needs some solid upgrade plan, support from geda/pcb maintainters and 
maybe support from packagers of different distros.
