Any chance to get rid of this special case magic? It has hurt students 
over here more than once.
How about an option in gafrc that needs to be set if you really want 
"refdes=*a" to be treated diffent than "refdes=*A"?

Fortunately, gnetlist throughs a warning on conflicting values since about 
two years. Unfortunately, gnetlist also warns if the attribute is not set 
at all for some of the set of symbols with the same refdes. I'd say, 
setting the footprint attribute only once is not only ok but better than 
setting it at every instance.
