Just tried SVG output of gerbv with one of my layouts. Inkscape opened the
result just fine. Lines could be manipulated on a by node basis as they
should.

Initially, the whole layout was wrapped in a large group. I performed an
ungroup action on it before I tried to manipulate single lines. Inkscape
is not the fastes of all applications and the gerber group contained
literally thousends of objects. This might feel like it is an opaque
bitmap.
