You should take the master attribute list as recommendations, not as absolute truth. For the majority of attributes, the interpretation is up to the writer of the gnetlist back end. Only two back ends use pintype: drc2 and vhdl. The recommendation you quote refers to the usage of pintype by drc2. This usage is itself problematic. The model implemented by drc2 really only works for pure digital design of printed circuits using a single logic family.

Nothing. The vhdl back end doesn't know what to do with a tristate pintype, and drc2 doesn't know what to do with a port symbol. Pintype is one of several attributes for which we do not have consistent interpretation.
