Glenn,
Yes, I noted your posting about a clean build. I was going to reply but
haven't gotten to it yet. You beat me to it.
I ran "make check" in the gsymcheck directory as you did above and got
the similar errors! This is getting weird:

****************************
I don't have any configure parameters other than the usual stuff. Here
is a snippet from my buildscript:
*****************************
<snip>
PFX=/usr
<snip>
#Â Add additional configure options to the following (NO SPACE AFTER "="!):
CONFIGURE_OPTS=
<snip>
#Â Configure:
CFLAGS="${SLKCFLAGS}" \
CXXFLAGS="-g ${SLKCFLAGS}" \
./configure \
 --prefix=${PFX} \
 --libdir=${PFX}/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX} \
 --sysconfdir=/etc \
 --mandir=${PFX}/man \
 --localstatedir=/var \
 --docdir=${DOC_DIR} \
 ${CONFIGURE_OPTS} \
 --program-prefix="" \
 --program-suffix="" \
 --build=${ARCH}-slackware-linux \
 --host=${ARCH}-slackware-linux \
 || exit
#Â Make:
make ${JOBS}Â || exit
#Â Make check:
if [ "${MAKE_CHECK}" = "YES" ]; then
 make check || exit
fi
<snip>
*********************
So, just the usual Slackware configure options, with $CONFIGURE_OPTS
null. I also tried running ./autogen.sh before the configure as you did,
but it didn't help.
Same versions of autotools as you:
********************
501:$autoconf --version
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.69
502:$automake --version
automake (GNU automake) 1.15
503:$make --version
GNU Make 4.1
**********************
This is a weird, but not fatal, problem. I have yet to build as root,
install and run it. Thanks.
Girvin
