of contemporary geda.

In the end found myself cheating: Set up a linux desktop with geda tools
running natively and had my windows users use x2go to access a dedicated

The absence of an installable windows version certainly contributed to
most of my users switch to kicad or even eagle. (This is a university
setting. PhDs have a bit of leeway to decide which tools to use.)
