Well, that's a better reason than any other I could give you... ;-)

I don't know how large is the `plain DOS + DJGPP' army, but for me
it's been an incredibly useful combination.  DOS 5.0 is the only
piece of M$-ware I still own, and I realized long ago that I would
simply move to Linux if/when I found DOS+DJGPP no longer suitable.

-: No offence, but personally, I'd hesitate to let any TSR futz with my

It certainly has it's hazards, but I would expect the TSR to get
the same critical scrutiny and careful development that any of the
low-level DJGPP routines get.
