I don't think QDPMI is relevant (you can turn it off by typing 
"qdpmi off" from the command line and use cwsdpmi instead).  I think the 
crucial part is where is the BIOS font remapped, and QEMM most probably 
does it differently, especially with the Stealth turned on (ST:M).

Could you run your test program and see where is the address of the font 
table under QEMM?

Btw, I always work under QEMM on DOS, and it doesn't crash for me, 
either.

It's up to you.  If this problem doesn't bother you anymore, I'm the last 
person to force you into investigating it.  The crashes are very rare (I 
only heard about this from 2 other users, over the last years), so most 
systems probably get it right somehow.
