Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days
You don't even need to know C to start.

I like that book, but ignore the spiel about fitting everything
into 640K. You have at least 4 MB to work with.

You'll have to adapt some of the code, and a lot of the
functionality is duplicated in the Allegro library.
