Subject:	first time gcc problem

I just installed djgpp222 and make my first attempt to compile.
   gcc glop.c
gives me the error
   ld: file not found for libgcc.a
Note that
   gcc -c glop.c
does gives me a glop.o file.
I have added the set lines as described in the readme file.
This must be something simple.  Thanks for any pointers.
