I have the exact same problem - this after JUST upgrading my Xorg. My X server was working PERFECTLY - for YEARS. Now just after newest version... :( FYI: I'm running cygwin32 under XP. HOWEVER - Chris - I'd ask you check the date on your log file. Because MY system is failing long before it touches the log! I have an: Xwin.exe.stackdump: $ cat /usr/bin/XWin.exe.stackdump Exception: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION at eip=7C917F82 eax=612E6FD8 ebx=612E6FB8 ecx=00000000 edx=0700FF00 esi=612E5718 edi=0022C414 ebp=0022C3F8 esp=0022C3F8 program=D:\Programs\cygwin\bin\XWin.exe, pid 904, thre ad main cs=001B ds=0023 es=0023 fs=003B gs=0000 ss=0023 Stack trace: Frame Function Args 0022C3F8 7C917F82 (00000044, 612E6FD8, 00000000, 00000001) End of stack trace Already checked - nothing newer than version 1.17.1-4; which is what is dumping for me. Anyone know of a fix or workaround? TIA - Bob -----Original Message----- From: cygwin-owner AT cygwin DOT com [mailto:cygwin-owner AT cygwin DOT com] On Behalf Of Kunz, Christopher L Sent: Wednesday, May 13, 2015 1:41 PM To: cygwin AT cygwin DOT com Subject: startxwin - xinit unable to connect to X server After updating to the latest Cygwin distribution, I can no longer connect to X server. When I run startxwin (on a fresh Cygwin install), I get the following errors: xinit: giving up xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused xinit: server error The XWin.#.log looks okay, I think (see attached). I've set DISPLAY to :0.0.
