A) There is some software configuration glitch (or intraction like cygwin, lib serf, internal errors) B) An unknown change in transparent proxy servers based on vlan configuration (based on MAC address) when plugged into the same switch. I whould have bet it was A, and that I did some magic a few months ago to make the machine that works work, but it turns out it is B. Your help has helped me show our help desk that there is a real issue, that is in their realm of responsibility.
