Under Cygwin, the "analog" of libpython2.4.so, libpython2.4.dll, is
installed in /usr/bin.  So, users don't have to add /usr/lib to their
PATH.

Understood.  Would you be willing to champion a patch that creates a
symlink of libpython2.4.dll.a in /usr/lib?
