Subject: how to interrupt a program within GDB?

Setting breakpoints and going line by line works fine in GDB.
However, i am used to interrupt programs while they are running
using ^C, from within GBD on Unix, and then see where the program
was. Under gnu-win32, GDB seems unresponsive until the program stops
by itself, or reaches a breakpoint. Any idea, i did not find anything
in the FAQ or the mail archive? Thanks.
