4.3 Options Used by --extract

(This message will disappear, once this node revised.)

@quote-arg {i need to get dan to go over these options with me and see if there's a better way of organizing them.}

The previous chapter showed how to use --extract (--get, -x) to extract an archive into the filesystem. Various options cause tar to extract more information than just file contents, such as the owner, the permissions, the modification date, and so forth. This section presents options to be used with `--extract' when certain special considerations arise. You may review the information presented in 2.6 How to Extract Members from an Archive for more basic information about the `--extract' operation.
