The simplest and most distilled introduction to kicad netlist descriptors
for gEDA familiar types would be the functions

int write_kicad_legacy_equipotential_netlists(FILE * FP, PCBTypePtr Layout)

Netlist export from gnetlist should be quite simple, as you suggest.
