With '4K' 3840x2160 displays starting to become common and ridiculously cheap now, and 5K 5120x2880 becoming available it's not something that's going away. Those will suffer even more from unused wasted space on the two bars than I do. I have a friend who uses photoshop across two monitors, the image being edited is full screen on one monitor and all the menus, toolbars and sidebar equivalents are on a second monitor. That sort of flexibility would be wonderful, but is only possible if the sidebar is detachable.
