I think the most important aspect of your work is hav= ing a real time browser of the footprint being selected.
I think the usa= bility for new users going from schematic->layout is helped enormously b= y this.

How easily your demonstrated functionality could be m= erged into gschem or pcb, I do not know, but the feature would be a real bo= on.
