I found stock PCB to be a a bit quirky in this regard too. This is the kind of change that people need to try and go "yeah, that's better - and doesn't break anything unexpected" before pushing upstream. Sounds like at least Bert's is a good candidate for that, and I'd vouch for mine as not having caused me any problems too. I don't think mine specifically addressed line endpoints - so the two might be complimentary if the merge ok.
