It is a small price to pay for the usability improvements they create. As for the via feature: Simply mentioning the fact that "changing layers with the number keys and left-clicking inserts a via", in the line tool's description would be a big improvement. Personally, I rarely find informative (read: big) too= ltips to be annoying. It is a small price to pay for the usability improvem= ents they create.

As for the via feature: Simply mentioning th= e fact that "changing layers with the number keys and left-clicking in= serts a via", in the line tool's description would be a big improv= ement.

some of them.=C2=A0 = I'm hoping this will be fairly quick and easy.

Why:

=C2=A0 * There are features that users don&#= 39;t find because the menu names aren't
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 quite d= escriptive enough (e.g. Lock/Only/Hide Names would have been useful
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 to me).

=C2=A0 * There are featur= es that are hard to use even when their purpose is obvious,
=C2= =A0 =C2=A0 because complex actions are required after the tool in question = is
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 selected (e.g. maybe I'll learn how to draw = polygons along the way :)

=C2=A0 * It will help me= in becoming aware of as many PCB features as possible

=

How:

=C2=A0 * Add entries to (= g)pcb-menu.res.in,= sort out why the few tips already there
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 don't = show up for me.

=C2=A0 * Create the usual devel br= anch, hopefully others can help fill in tooltips
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 fo= r features they are most familiar with

<= div>Questions:

=C2=A0 * Some of the tooltips might= need to get slightly bigger to be useful, so
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 might= get annoying.=C2=A0 So it might be nice if their was an obvious way to
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 turn them off.=C2=A0 I guess it would be an entry in P= references->general.
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 Whether it's worth it w= ould depend on how annoying people find them.

=C2=A0 * Is there any way to describe things like the
=C2=A0 =C2= =A0 switch-layers-while-drawing-line-to-magically-add-a-via trick that peop= le
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 will actually read?=C2=A0 It took me a long time= to find out about it and others
=C2=A0 =C2=A0 have had the same = trouble
