Question is why the world does that? It is the easiness of use or user experience or something like that. Most of the time doing things goes to enjoying the experience when the job should be get done. I showed to a friend how I created some symbols to gschem. I downloaded datasheet=2C converted it to text and copy pasted values for djboxsym. Less than five minutes. Ansver was something like too hard or complicated. After five minutes my friend had drawn outline and written 6 pin names and one was even wrong. So My undersanding is that people want integrated environments where they have only one way to go. Learning to use tools is too big task. Propably those tools which John Doty is referring can import netlist but users doesn't know how to do that.
