The problem is: When we make all configuratible, code will become complex and user problems can occur due to wrong configuration, i.e. a user may ask how he can do some action, but the answer will not work for him due to different configurations. For text label we can indeed offer in place and popup editing -- popup dialog appears when user presses right mouse button to open context menu and select "edit". Personally I like to have some options for configuration, but my feeling is that most people in these days prefer to have only one way to do something. I.e. in the Ruby vs. Python discussion I have seen people prefering Python because there is only exactly one way to do something (Ruby generally offers more than one way). For Linux: For Gentoo we have many options, for Ubuntu fewer. And of course Ubuntu has more users. I am not sure how many configuration options other EDA tools have -- I can not remember discussions about how to change something from default. For the Tablets (I do not have one currently): User can install Apps, but can he change configuration? Indeed, sometimes it can be nice to have not too much choices.
