There are no official "thermals" for SMD pads. There was a patch submitted to do so, and there's no reason why it couldn't work, but it takes some thinking to figure out the "right" thermal pattern for various smd pads. For example, compare an 0805 pad's possible thermals to a TQFP144 pad's possible thermals. The patch is probably still in the tracker and could be completed if you want.
