I = cannot imagine that buses cannot be used, that would make gschem
practically unusable. Which options do I have to use to get = moreorless
the same functionality?

Apparently I need to use netname = on the connecting wires.

Yes, or net=3D attributes on connected pins. Nets with = the same name will always be connected together, whether you draw a = connection to a bus or not.

And I = happen
to see that N sometimes creates a / or \ bus entry, = but I cannot force
the use of / or \. When the bus = consists of two parts gschem behaves
differently.

There are = heuristics that control the angle of the bus connector. They apparently = worked for somebody=E2=80=99s workflow. You need not worry about placing or connecting it = wrongly.
