I recall seeing such file at some point (presumably in the old installation), but I also always placed the files in the system directory, so that I don't need to bother with that. That's what was puzzling me --- I'm placing the .sym files under the /usr/share/gEDA/sym directory, but they're not being recognized .... Until, d'oh! --- I realize now that the new installation goes under /usr/*local*/share/gEDA .... !! I just copied the files to /usr/local/share/gEDA/sym/local/ and ta-daaaa.... there they are, all the symbols and everything working as it used to!! :-) I'll probably look for the config file to add the search path. Incidentally, PCB Designer (the new version installed from source, that is) does see the custom footprints that I've created, located under $HOME/.gEDA/footprints/ Thanks again! Carlos --
