I now found that the problem is not with PMCOM, but somewhere in alarm() and signal(). When I make the calls to alarm() a comment, my program runs and runs and runs! But when I try to stop it by pressing CTRL-C, I get the same error as before (Not being able to access 0xffffffff)...
