AFAIK: no, it can't. The DOS kernel contained in ME immediately boots to Windows ME. It refuses to even start command.com before running the GUI, so autoexec.bat is essentially dead. Config.sys is also said to be mostly (if not completely) ignoread. In short: M$ is doing their very best (worst?) to keep you from accessing real DOS, even though bit parts of it still exist, even in ME. > I have presently Win98 and that how I use most of my DOS programs > without any problems through a operating selection mode. If you don't have any pressing reason, by all means stick with your Win98 system. If you plane to continue using DOS programs, don't "upgrade" to ME if you can possibly help it. It doesn't make the least bit of sense unless you really need some of the very few new features it actually has --- most of which are either outright silly ("system file protection"), or badly implemented facsimiles to previously existing third party tools (ICS). All the above is just my personal opinion, of course. -- Hans-Bernhard Broeker (broeker AT physik DOT rwth-aachen DOT de) Even if all the snow were burnt, ashes would remain.
