True. KEYB.COM is given information about the codepage it should assume. But the effects of missing/wrong KEYB are slightly different from a missing/wrong codepage it tries to use. I meant to point out that if only the codepage is wrong, the key for '|' would still work --- it'd just look wrong on screen, but still function properly. Same if you managed to type one in another program (Notepad was said to work, for the OP), it'll look funny, but continue to work.
