Hmm... I don't remember any such malfunction. So either that's yet
another new breakage in ME compared to 98 (and SE), or you didn't edit
the COUNTRY line correctly, when you turned off DISPLAY.SYS.  You have
to change the 850 to 437 in the COUNTRY line, too.
