And you say that "dir e:\" works fine! Further investigation by John seems to indicate that this problem happens only as long as the root directory of the RAM disk is empty. Creating a file there makes the error messages go away. Perhaps this is some quirk specific to RAMDRIVE.SYS on Windows 9X?
