Solution found ! With the help of Salvador, Elie and Gauthier. My version of Windows98se in French has the two files "keybd2.sys" and "keyboard.sys" in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ . Autoexec.bat is set to the first one by installation and changing that to "keyboard.sys" corrected the behavior of DOS and all programs running under it. It was that simple...
