It is an excellent compiler and IDE with many tools, http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~lcc-win32/ I would also suggest buying a good book. I never did and wasted many hours finding things from the net. "theForger's Win32 API Programming Tutorial" is an excellent start though at http://bcgrizzly.com/~forger/winprog/tutorial/ ... just to get your feet wet.
