Speed doesn't depend much of the library but of the hardware you have. Allegro is pretty well optimized, keeping in mind that usually it is designed to be a multipurpose lib. Usually, unless you create a very specific function yourself, or code it in asm, Allegro will be a good choice for any graphic function.
