I find it silly for me to waste my time and get Rainer's permission to distribute a new version of RSXNTDJ to fix all of its annoying, time-destroying (oh, new word :-) problems. I say we boycot RSXNTDJ and refer anyone who asks about it in the future to Mumit Kahn's distribution of Mingw32. For those of you who don't know it, Mingw32 is an actively developed port of GCC to Windows. It produces native Win32 GUI and console apps. You can also use OpenGL, DirectX, Glide and anything else that comes to mind with a minimal of hassle. With Anders Norlander's Win32 headers, it is always up to date with the current Microsoft counterparts. RSXNTDJ, on the other hand, is not being actively maintained, it's headers are falling apart from age, and it has too many annoyingly simple-to-fix problems to make it just not worth the hassle. From what we've seen, the author (Rainer), doesn't read this newsgroup, doesn't care much that he put a buggy release of his package out there, and doesn't seem interested in fixing the problems. I say we move on and stop dwelling on RSXNTDJ's potential. Yes, it could potentially be a very good package, but it's not. The idea was there, but the commitment was not. This is not hate mail. I applaud Rainer for his gallant effort, but I'm disappointed with his complete loss of interest. So, I'm ready (and from what I gather, others are too) to start using Mingw32 as our free win32 compiler and forget about RSXNTDJ. Forever... Please post your opinion. Please don't flame me, this is only my opinion and does not need to be accepted by everyone else. But I'm moving on, and so should you. Cheers, -- Johan Venter ICQ 3643877 surf.to/djgppig
