Perhaps your files are named in the form "foo.C" and since Dos/Win9x's filesystems are case-insensitive (albeit case-preserving in Win9x) you are giving the compiler the name "foo.c". On second thought, since you mentioned Rhide and "CPP" specifically this particular problem is probably not it.
