Could you please explain how do you invoke these scripts, and what effects, including any messages from Diff, do you see that seem to be incorrect? It's okay to post test scripts, but without knowing what do they produce on your system, how can I tell whether or not I've succeeded to reproduce the problem? Your message also says that ``these scripts reliably produce the expected behavior'', so I'm led to beleive that there's nothing wrong with Diff; however, you still say something IS wrong. FWIW, I don't see anything unusual when I run these commands on my system. But my notion of ``unusual'' might be different from yours. > (Interestingly, I do not see the problem if I redirect the output > from the scripts.) Again, without the precise command line you used to redirect the output, and without a description of the produced effect, this information is meaningless.
