I just got to say, this thread is scary. I never even thought of the
possibility that when microsoft leave DOS behind permanently, it will be
difficult to keep DJGPP alive. I, for one, will stick with DJGPP till the
end (which is, hopefully, not too soon), and if microsoft stop supporting
DOS altogether then we, as the users of DJGPP will be the renegade computer
users that microsoft fights to aboloish.

The answer? Well, if we could only get a hold of the DOS source
code......:-).....no, hold on, that won't happen, not with ms as the
captain.

So what can be done? I think a port of X as many have suggested would be a
good thing, as it will make the use of DOS/DJGPP seem more appealing.

Also, the installation needs work. It need not be constricting. A program
that checks the current directory for DJGPP packages (how about a slightly
modified zip or tar format that it can use to identify them with?). Once it
has found all the packages, maybe show the user a list of the packages
(excluding the base ones) that can be installed. After this, install them.
Maybe have a specific install file contained in each package, kind of like a
makefile, that would allow the install program to decide on what (if any)
extra settings/environment variables that need to be setup to get the
package working????

I don't know....I'm rambling.....just a thought.
