But the other day ftp.simtel.net was down for hours on end. And so were a shitload of others. I had a web page listing FTP sites mirroring something, with links for each. I tried all the nearby ones, first in the province, then in North America. All bombed ... every site was down at the same freaking time except one that no longer mirrored the file. (cdrom.com wasn't one of the mirrors for this file.) I then tried two Japanese servers and another in Switzerland (or was it Sweden?). All 3 were down. I picked another one, this time in the UK, and it (finally) worked. -- .*.
