If this is a DJGPP version of Emacs, you need to unset the environment variable TERM before you run Emacs. The DJGPP port of Emacs uses its own internal terminal emulator, but setting TERM in the environment confuses the Emacs startup code into trying to use the usual character terminal interface (which then requires a termcap database which most PCs don't have). > PS: Do you know somewhere to look for some help about bash?
