They're faster than VESA 1 -- isn't that the point? Being no faster isn't a problem -- so long as they're fast enough for your game. You shouldn't really assume that nothing better than VESA 2 will ever be available. I was really referring to VBE/AF and the built in chipset drivers, yes.
