If it hadn't ben Eli there would be another one but SOMEBODY had to compile the information so that people don't have to learn all by themselve. Given the time that it takes to read a FAQ compared to the time it takes to work out the knowledge it contains (even on "simple" questions) you are far better off with reading that "oversized" thing. Also you are usually faster with reading the FAQ than posting to a ng (unless you are lucky and get an immediate answer). Usually it takes me at least half a day to get an answer at all.
