DJGPP ports of gcc-2.8.1 except the latest release (June 6, 1998) goes into infinite loop if it is not getting environment variable DJDIR that should be defined in DJGPP.ENV. Check if environment variable DJGPP is pointing to Your DJGPP.ENV (or download latest update mentioned above as I added there output of error messages about such problems)
