It would be nice if you could describe exactly what are the problems you are
having, such as the error messages you get, etc. As it is, I can only guess
at solutions.

GCC 2.8.0 has recently been released to replace GCC 2.7.2.1. You should NOT
mix these versions. Choose one, and get the GCC, GPP, and LGP packages of
that version. Either is probably fine for a beginner.

The Zip-Picker at www.delorie.com will also help you decide what to get.
Also, be sure you have read the README.1ST!
