Surely the role of a sprite editor is just to create graphics, so why can't it save these out in a standard format like .pcx or .bmp? There are millions of programs for manipulating files of these types, and Allegro comes with tools (the grabber or dat archiver) that can easily convert them into an Allegro-specific format for use in your game.
